About the Deer Trail Curling Club
The club was founded and built as the Elliot Lake Granite
Club and originally had 6 sheets of ice, but they were not
regulation width (slightly narrower).
During the boom years of mining some mines also had 2 sheet
clubs and bonspiels were held using all clubs. When the
mines started to close that left only the Elliot Lake club,
hosting bonspiels of 64 teams and using the Rio Den arena as
well as the curling club.
In the late 1990's, the club renewed the ice surface,
replacing the gravel base with a cement pad and reducing the
number of sheets to five.
Around that same time the name was changed to the existing
Deer Trail Curling Club to reflect the club as being on the
Deer Trail.
Curling is an easy, fun way to get some exercise, meet new
friends, and enjoy this sport that is growing in popularity.
